The National Library of Wales

The National Library of Wales

The NLW Website should be your first port of call. This gives information on all aspects of the Library.

If you intend to visit the Library in person the Visit Us section should be consulted for details relating to opening hours, how to obtain a reader’s ticket and much more.

The next step would be to prepare for a visit by organising your information and checking that the information you require is held at the Library and is available for consultation. If you are unsure of any information, contact a member of the Enquiries Team for further information.

If you are visiting for the first time it may be worth considering visiting on a Wednesday as various Information Sessions are held throughout the day to learn about the Library’s collections and to make the best use of your time and the facilities at the Library.

Four sessions are offered at present:

• Welcome Session
• Family and Local History
• Maps, Photos and Property History
• Electronic Resources

You can book a place at a session through the website

An enquiries service is available if you are unable to visit the Library in person. There are a number of ways to make contact.

• Complete an Online Enquiry
• Telephone +44(0) 1970 632933
• Fax +44(0) 1970 632 551
• Write to The Enquiries Service, The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion SY23 3BU

This is a free service that aims to answer 90% of enquiries within 10 working days.

If you have a quick question, and want an instant reply, use the Instant Chat Service. At present this is available between 11am and 12pm on Tuesdays and 2pm and 3pm on Thursdays.

Frequently asked questions have been collected together in the Knowledge Base. Consider making a search here first in case your question has already been answered.

If you would like to follow the activities of the Library and be one of the first to receive news updates, you can follow NLW on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, You Tube, Flickr Commons. NLW has its own Welsh and English blog .
