Spotlight on Online

Spotlight on Online

Welcome to the Online Discussion Group. Below you will find information about our group, meeting schedule and other external online meetings that might be of interest.

We meet via Zoom on the last Monday of each month at 7pm. Most meetings are recorded so if you aren’t able to attend in person then you can access the recording (sent via email) at a later date for a limited period.

The aim of the group is to provide a friendly and supportive online community that will broaden your knowledge of Welsh genealogy and help with your family research. We do have some external speakers who, in the past, have covered subjects such as the old Drover Roads, and how to use facial recognition and DNA in your research. However, we like to encourage our members to give short talks on their own families especially as it gives an opportunity to ask for help when you reach a “brick wall” in your research. Many of our members are based in West Wales and have invaluable local knowledge, whilst some also join us from the U.S.A. and can provide guidance on how to navigate archive records in America.

If you are interested in joining our monthly sessions then please tick the box “Online Discussion Group” in your “My Details” tab and you will be added to our email list to receive the Zoom links and recordings.

You will now have received the recording of the presentation by Susan Fielding on the Capeli Cymru project. She gave a very interesting history of Non Conformist Chapel buildings throughout Wales and asked members to fill out the questionnaires about your local chapels to help create a database of all known Chapels in Wales.  Online Workshops are also scheduled over the next couple of months for the general public to contribute and help develop innovative and practical strategies to safeguard the Chapel heritage across Wales.

Eleanor Mathias is the contact for more information. email: capelicymru@rcahmw.gov.uk

Below are the links to the questionnaires and workshops (for which you need to book a slot) One workshop is in person in Cardiff whilst the rest are online.
